What is mobile medical computing?

A handheld computer is a computer small enough to hold in one hand, or fit into a pocket. A smartphone is a handheld computer that can also make telephone calls. Mobile medical computing is the use of handheld computers and smartphones in healthcare.

Around the world, mobile medical computing is proving successful. This is why the medical schools of Harvard University, the University of Cambridge and the National University of Singapore have all provided handheld computers to their students. It is also why Duke University Health System’s hospitals in the USA, St. Olavs Hospital in Norway and Shin-Kong Wu Ho-Su Memorial Hospital in Taiwan have invested in handheld computers to support patient care.
