Dr Nadya James - Biography
Dr Nadya James studied at St George’s Hospital Medical School in London, her IT skills culminating in managing to blow up her desktop. She qualified as a Doctor in 2002, after taking time out to gain a First in a BSc Honours degree in Biomedical Sciences. Systematically ‘hovering up’ the medical school prizes, including winning the Gold Medal for all the London medical schools (but not having to mess around with fungus like Alexander Fleming to do it), she decided to invest in a handheld computer. She was soon beaming and hot-synching with the best of them.
When word got around of a PDA project at St George's, she leapt on board and has since been both a member and helper to fellow PDA owners. As she has never got the hang of reading the instruction manual, and has all the natural technical insight of a small mollusc, her knowledge comes very much from the perspective of the bewildered consumer. This has proved invaluable in assisting other users.
She also works on a variety of committees dealing in hospital restructuring and medical education at St George’s. She is involved in the integration of IT with hospital networks, including electronic discharge summaries, prescribing, and electronic patient lists and handovers. Her senior house officer years will be spent in Nottingham as she pursues her goal of becoming a paediatrician. However she remains active in medical education, the production of teaching material, and in bringing IT into medicine.
