Section II
Why two handhelds are better than one
This section shows examples of handhelds at work.
I have deliberately not mentioned the model of the handhelds bought. First, this is because handheld models improve constantly, and, therefore, reading about an older model might confuse.
More importantly, however, I have tried to avoid the Palm versus Pocket PC debate. As debates go, this is an old and often heated one. It is also, I think, an irrelevant one. You should choose the machine that you like the most from within the budget that you have. Then, to ensure long-term viability of your project, you should choose software that works on both types of handhelds.
Most of the software chosen in this section works well on both Palm-compatible and Pocket PC handhelds.
The examples draw upon the experience of Dr Laura Dean and myself in our hospital. We provided formal training, which we considered essential for success. In your own efforts, online resources and this book (Chapter 18) include the tools to give informal training to your team.
